Ron is a man that has mental issues and hangs out on the corner in front of my job. He’s a nice guy, he’s not homeless, he lives across the street. on a daily basis Ron comes into our store, asks how we are, sometimes asks for a glass of ice water or sandwiches that will inevitably be thrown out anyway. I think he was in the military, some sort of war and it really messed him up. You can see that when he’s looking at you and speaking, it takes him a second to form words and/or thoughts, and sometimes he’ll repeat himself a few times in a row, or stop talking mid thought. He can be kind of oblivious to his surroundings sometimes as well.
Today, while smoking a cigarette and taking a break from work, Ron saw me outside and rode his bike over.
-‘you look sad’
-‘oh, I’m okay.’
-‘its just ‘cause it’s so hot out’
-‘yeah Ron, it’s just ‘cause it’s hot out.’
